Houston DanceSport Meetup is Houston's pathway to the world of ballroom and Latin dancing! Open to all adults in the Houston metro area, amateur or pro, regardless of proficiency, ethnicity, gender, or marital status. In addition to promoting dance lessons, we will often promote practice socials at various dance studios in the area, and plans to encourage members to participate in, or watch competitions and performances.

 

Before the group was started in 2012, it had the working title "Houston Ballroom Dance Meetup," the term "Ballroom Dance" seemed a bit archaic and evokes images as an activity for the elderly and may alienate some potential members. It was replaced with "DanceSport" to modernize the image of ballroom dance which includes competitive dancing; and to promote the International Style of ballroom dancing. We're still awaiting for dancesport to be recognized as an Olympic sport!
